Don't Soak In Stinky Water: 4 Signs Your Spa Pump Needs Repairs

by Jeanette Perez

If your backyard spa is giving you problems, the first thing you should do is check the filter. You might not realise this, but a clogged filter can undermine the performance of your spa. If the filter is clean, it's time to take a closer look at the pump. This is especially important if you haven't serviced your pump in a few years. Read the list provided below. If you've encountered any of these issues, your pump may need to be repaired. Contact a spa repair service near you as soon as possible.

Your Pump Is Noisier Than Usual

When you turn on your backyard spa, you should hear a gentle hum coming from the pump. This is an indication that your pump is working properly. If your pump suddenly sounds louder, or you notice unusual sounds coming from the pump, it's time to call for repairs. Those sounds are an indication that your pump is working harder than it needs to.

Your Pump Has Sprung a Leak

If you've discovered a puddle of water near the pump housing, it's time to take immediate action. The first thing you need to do is ensure that the water isn't from normal use. If no one has been in the spa, check the area around the pump. If you can see water leaking from the pump, or there's a puddle of water under the pump, turn the power off to your spa and call for repairs right away. A leaky pump could lead to serious electrical issues, which can be catastrophic for you and your family. Leave the power off until the pump can be repaired.

Your Water Has a Foul Odor

If your water suddenly smells foul, but you've been providing proper maintenance for your spa, schedule repairs as soon as possible. Those foul odours are an indication that you have bacteria growing in the water, which means that your pump is no longer working properly. To ensure that your pump can keep your spa water clean and sanitary, it's important that you schedule repairs right away.

Your Water Isn't Circulating

If you've noticed that the water in your spa is no longer circulating, there's a good chance that your pump has malfunctioned. When working properly, the pump should circulate the water throughout the spa. It's the circulation that helps to maintain the cleanliness of the water. To resolve the issue, contact your spa repair service immediately.
